How SquatClock Handles Data
At SquatClock, we believe your health data belongs to you. Core reminder, schedule, and history features stay on your device. We do not require an account, use advertising trackers, or sell your personal information. The optional custom-character service uses only the data described below to process a purchase and create, deliver, and recover that character.
TL;DR: Your squat history and preferences stay on your device. The community counter receives a short-lived anonymous count. If you buy a custom character, Paddle and SquatClock process the checkout, prompt, optional reference image, and delivery email.
What Stays on Your Device
Your ordinary SquatClock activity data is stored locally on your device. This includes:
- Your squat history and daily counts
- Progress data and streaks
- Reminder settings and timing preferences
- Any favorites or custom configurations
This data does not leave your device except for the optional, short-lived community-counter contribution described below. When you uninstall SquatClock, locally stored app data is removed with the app, subject to your operating system's backup behavior.
What We Don't Collect
Let's be crystal clear about what we're NOT doing:
- We don't collect your name, phone number, contacts, or address through the app; Paddle handles checkout details for an optional custom-character purchase
- We don't track your location
- We don't use analytics or tracking pixels
- We don't use cookies for tracking purposes
- We don't sell personal information
- We don't create user profiles or accounts
- We don't monitor your usage patterns
Global Squat Counter
SquatClock features a global squat counter that shows how many squats are being done by the community worldwide. When you log squats, we share limited data with our server to power this feature:
- Anonymous device identifier: A randomly generated UUID stored on your device. This is NOT tied to your identity, Apple ID, Google account, or any personal information - it's just a random string of characters.
- Squat count: The number of squats you completed (e.g., 10).
This data is used solely to calculate the worldwide community statistics (total squats and number of people squatting). Here's what makes it privacy-respecting:
- The device identifier is completely anonymous - it cannot be traced back to you
- We do NOT collect your IP address, location, name, email, or any other personal information
- Data is stored in temporary time buckets and automatically deleted after 2 hours
- The feature only activates when you're online - offline usage sends no data
- You can disable this feature entirely in the app's Settings under "Community"
Custom Character Purchases and Generation
A custom desktop character is an optional one-time purchase. Paddle is the merchant of record and collects payment, billing, tax, and checkout information under Paddle's own privacy policy. SquatClock receives the Paddle transaction and customer identifiers, the checkout email, purchase status, charged amount, and currency needed to fulfill the purchase, prevent abuse, and provide support. We do not receive or store your complete payment-card details.
Character creation happens on our servers. We process the text prompt and, if you choose to provide one, a reference image. The reference image and intermediate generation assets are stored temporarily for generation, delivery, safety, and retry handling, then removed under our retention process. Prompts, reference images, and generated assets are sent to Retro Diffusion to perform the requested server-side generation.
We store the checkout email and an encrypted copy of the character code so we can deliver the purchase and send a recovery email when requested. Recovery requests also use Cloudflare Turnstile to limit automated abuse. We process the request's IP address for security and rate limiting. No customer profile or sign-in is created.
Limited Interactions
The only way we might hear from you is if you reach out directly:
- Contacting us via email for support
- Leaving a review on the App Store or Google Play
If you email us, we'll only use your information to respond to your inquiry. We don't add you to marketing lists or share your contact information.
Website Analytics
This marketing website may use basic, privacy-respecting analytics to understand general traffic patterns (like how many people visit the page). This analytics data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify individual visitors. The app itself contains no analytics whatsoever.
Limited Service Providers
We do not sell, rent, or use personal information for behavioral advertising. We share only what is necessary with service providers that operate the features you request, including Paddle for payment and receipts, Cloudflare for hosting, security, and recovery email, and Retro Diffusion for character generation.
Your Data, Your Control
You control local app data and can contact us about optional character-service records:
- Delete local data anytime: Uninstall the app to remove locally stored app data, subject to operating-system backups
- No account needed: Start using SquatClock immediately
- Character support: Contact us to ask about purchase, recovery, or generation records associated with your checkout email
Third-Party Services
SquatClock is distributed through Apple's App Store, Google Play, and direct desktop downloads. Optional custom-character checkout uses Paddle, and generation uses Retro Diffusion. These providers have their own privacy policies:

Updates to This Policy
If we ever change this privacy policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Purchase emails are used for fulfillment and recovery, not policy marketing, so we recommend checking this page periodically for changes.
Our core commitment remains the same: collect only what is needed for the features you choose, keep ordinary activity data local, and never sell personal information.
